Duffy and the Bullies
A collaboration between author Jeff Szusterman and illustrator Ant Sang; Duffy and the Bullies is a full colour graphic novel for younger readers (8 years and over).
This is the first graphic novel that Ant has drawn completely digitally. He usually inks on paper, scans, and then colours digitally – but he wanted to explore a simpler style for younger readers, and decided that a digital style would be perfect for this project.
Adapted from a play that confronts bullying front on, the story shows the popular Duffy coming to the aid of 11-year-old Marama, victim of physical and psychological bullying by the jealous Ashlee. With Kiwi-as characters, rugby and a typical school setting, here’s a gripping read that will make a difference to kids.

” Ant Sang is truly a master illustrator who excels at combative scenes and capturing body movement.” – Lucy Black, The Sapling
“superbly illustrated by Ant Sang” – Tomorrow’s Schools Today
“The artwork is superb” – Maria Gill, Kids Books NZ
“Ant Sang’s colour illustrations are masterly. He manages to make every one of his large cast of characters instantly identifiable. Even his skeleton is appealing. He also uses close-ups and a range of perspectives to keep his pages visually exciting and dramatic. The most impressive page shows two rugby teams performing their haka.” – The Source
